About Ziņnesis
Every few minutes Ziņnesis reads the public news feeds of 125 media outlets and groups articles about the same event into one story. That way you see not just the headline, but how many different outlets are covering the event and how each of them reports it.
This is the English edition: stories from English-language media covering Latvia. News in Latvian is in the Latvian edition, and news in Russian in the Russian edition of Ziņnesis.
How we select stories
- Articles are grouped into a story by link, headline and text similarity — automatically, with no editor involved.
- The number next to a headline shows how many different outlets are covering it; several sections of one publisher count as a single voice.
- On the front page, stories covered by more outlets and more recent stories rank higher.
- We show only the headline, a short excerpt and a link. The article always opens on the publisher’s own site.
“What we know” — AI summary
For stories covered by at least three different outlets, we show a 2–3 sentence summary marked “AI” above the list of sources. It is generated automatically by a language model (Anthropic Claude) solely from those outlets’ headlines and excerpts — no other sources, no speculation and no opinions. If a summary contains a number that does not appear in any source, we discard it and show the source’s excerpt instead. The summary is refreshed once at least two more outlets start covering the story. It can be wrong — always read the outlets’ own articles for the full picture.
Latvian- and Russian-language coverage
Latvia has both Latvian- and Russian-language media, and they do not always cover the same events. In the Latvian and Russian editions, Ziņnesis compares the two automatically and shows stories that one side is not covering — those reported by at least three outlets in one language over the past 48 hours, but not by outlets in the other.

Privacy
Ziņnesis does not use advertising cookies, does not sell or share data with advertisers and does not include third-party trackers. The share buttons are plain links — they do not load scripts from Facebook, X or any other network.
- Without an account you can use the whole site. The server keeps only technical access logs for security.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 only with your consent (Consent Mode v2): until you click “Accept”, no analytics cookies are set; IP addresses are anonymised and there are no advertising cookies. Your choice is stored in the
zn_consentcookie (consent for 1 year, refusal for 6 months); you can change it by deleting that cookie. - An account (optional) stores: your email, name (if you give one), a password hash (we never see the password itself), saved stories, the sections, regions, sources and topics you follow, notification settings, language and app sign-in tokens. The session cookie is used only to keep you signed in.
- Notifications. If you turn on browser notifications, we store the browser’s push address and encryption keys, the browser name and a log of notifications sent (so we never send one twice and stay within the daily limit). In the apps — the device push token. Notifications are delivered through the push service of your browser or device maker (Google, Apple, Mozilla). You can turn them off at any time.
- Email. For the Morning briefing we store your email and the time you confirmed it; we send only after you confirm via the link, and you can unsubscribe with one click at the end of every email. Account emails (address confirmation, password reset) are sent only when you request them.
- Appearance. If you choose light or dark mode, the choice is stored in the
zn_themecookie and in browser storage (1 year); it is not linked to you. - Deletion. “Delete account” on your account page deletes your account and all of the data above immediately and permanently (including your Morning briefing subscription, notification subscriptions and the log). In the apps — under Settings.
